Aerobotics, a Cape Town-based agritech startup, secured $17 million in an oversubscribed Series B round led by Naspers Foundry, with participation from Cathay AfricInvest Innovation, FMO, and Platform Investment Partners. This latest funding aims to accelerate development of its AI platform, which uses drones and satellite imagery to support farmers in fruit and tree health monitoring across 18 countries.
Mission & Vision of Aerobotics
Founded in 2014, Aerobotics empowers farmers with precise, data-driven insights on crop health, yield forecasts, and disease detection. The company envisions a world where agribusinesses use aerial intelligence to boost yields, minimize waste, and strengthen food security.
Core Technology & Product Offering
Aerobotics combines drone and satellite imagery with AI algorithms to analyze orchards and farms. Its system identifies unhealthy trees, pest or disease outbreaks, and provides forecasts on yields and harvest schedules. As a result, farmers can optimize inventory, reduce inputs, and improve fruit quality.
Aerobotics Market Position & Traction
Aerobotics has established a strong global presence in the precision agriculture market, particularly within the high-value tree crop sector. With more than 81 million trees and over 1 million citrus fruits analyzed to date, the company has built one of the largest proprietary agricultural imagery datasets in the world. This scale enables its AI models to deliver increasingly accurate diagnostics and forecasts for growers.
In the United States, Aerobotics has seen a rapid uptick in adoption, where its platform is now used by large-scale fruit producers to monitor orchard health and plan harvests. The company reports a more than tenfold increase in revenue over the past two years, driven by U.S. market penetration and expanding global demand. Its technology is also widely used in Australia, Portugal, and several countries across Africa, positioning Aerobotics as a trusted agritech partner for both emerging and mature farming operations.
Details of the Series B Round
The $17 million Series B round was led by Naspers Foundry, with support from Cathay AfricInvest Innovation, FMO, and Platform Investment Partners. Proceeds will enhance AI capabilities, support entry into new markets like the U.S., and deepen partnerships with agricultural leaders.
Why Aerobotics Is a Company to Watch
Aerobotics stands out with its unique combination of large-scale aerial imagery and machine learning for agriculture. Its strong dataset, investor support, and global footprint position it to lead the digitization of fruit and tree farming. As agritech becomes ever more essential for food security, Aerobotics is shaping the future of smarter, more resilient agriculture.
